Do desktop backgrounds you download or save off the internet slowo down you're PC?

Any backgrounds...non in paticular. But if i have a background other than the simple ones the PC comes with...will it slow down my pc. If so by how much? is it bad enough that i shouldnt do it?

they are not large enough to make a noticeable difference in performance of your pc. if you really feel that the pc is slower if you use a large file, then probably you are using some kind of program that requires more physical memory from your ram, and that might be the cause. but really, there are RARELY files for backgrounds that can slow down ur pc that you can notice the difference of its performance.

go ahead and enjoy the many cool backgrounds you find.

not enough so that you will notice a performance difference

just use a background unless your computer is truly ancient
Most of those pictures are WAY too small to impact performance on you're computer , unless you had less than 5 Megabytes of storage left , and , if you did , may I say what the hell? You need ATLEAST 200 Megabytes of storage to run windows properly. I have over 200 Gigabytes left , so , I'm good XD.

So , yes , set different backrounds to you're hearts content.

they claim having a desktop showing, anykind really, uses up some power.....really, how much could it use, imo not enough to not show it........and definitely not enough to slow down your pc.........so leave it on, no problems...........scott

Yes, but it's such a small difference you'll never notice it. Maybe like, 8 bits or something, at the very most.
Your general image at 1280x960 resolution is about 188KB, consider how large your average music file is; 3.5mB.

So that one image is about 5% the size of just one song on your computer. This is nowhere near enough to impact the performance of your computer.

The only way downloading an image could effect your computer is if you download a virus as well. Then the virus will mess with your computer. But continue to download desktop images. They have no effect on your computer's perfomance
