Shaded / Gradient backgrounds?

On this and many web pages, the background and even the buttons have backgrounds which transition from, say, 20% to white.

In some cases the text has an opague white background between letters and slightly surrounding the letters, making the text float over the gradient fill.

How do they do that? CSS? Dreamweaver?

Try this

%26lt;head%26gt;

??%26lt;style type="text/css"%26gt;

.grad {

????display : -moz-inline-block;

????display : inline-block;

????width : 800px;

????height : 200px;

????background-color : #008040;

????border : 1px solid black;

????filter : alpha( opacity=90, Finishopacity=10, startX=0, finishX=0, startY=0, finishY=100, style=1);

}

??%26lt;/style%26gt;

%26lt;/head%26gt;

%26lt;body%26gt;

????%26lt;div class="grad"%26gt;%26lt;/div%26gt;

%26lt;/body%26gt;

I've demonstrated the alpha filter on a div, but you can display your hyperlink %26lt;a%26gt; tags as blocks too.

Can you give a specific example (a link to a page)?

I can picture what you are describing, but I don't see anything resembling a glow or stroke on the characters on this page.

If you point us to a particular example we'll be able to give better answers...
