I am able to change my advanced appearences in display properties, I can also access and change my slide shows settings, but then when you go to preview settings you get nothing but a black screen. My backgrounds menu won't even let me move the little slide bar, I can't click on any of my backgrounds, nothing , so I hope someone out there can help.

A black screen in preview is sometimes normal because you may be changing the theme and you will see the change once the screensaver is activated.
